%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22U.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Mehlhorn%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22K.%20L.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Davis%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22E.%20J.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Burke%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22D.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Adams%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22G.%20A.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Laine%22%7D%2C%7B%22creatorType%22%3A%22author%22%2C%22firstName%22%3A%22S.%20J.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Allen%22%7D%5D%2C%22abstractNote%22%3A%22Cardioplegic%20arrest%20%28CPA%29%20is%20associated%20with%20interstitial%20myocardial%20edema%2C%20which%20has%20been%20shown%20to%20impair%20myocardial%20function.%20The%20accumulation%20of%20interstitial%20myocardial%20edema%20may%20be%20enhanced%20by%20impaired%20myocardial%20lymph%20flow.%20The%20purpose%20of%20this%20study%20was%20to%20investigate%20the%20effects%20of%20CPA%20on%20myocardial%20lymphatic%20function.%20In%20nine%20anesthetized%20dogs%2C%20we%20cannulated%20a%20prenodal%20cardiac%20lymphatic%20and%20measured%20myocardial%20lymph%20flow%20rate%20%28QL%29%2C%20myocardial%20lymph%20driving%20pressure%20%28PL%29%2C%20and%20myocardial%20lymph%20hyaluronan%20%28Hya%29%20concentration.%20We%20determined%20left%20ventricular%20function%20using%20pressure-volume%20curves%20derived%20by%20sonomicrometry%20and%20micromanometry.%20The%20dogs%20were%20placed%20on%20cardiopulmonary%20bypass%20%28CPB%29%20%2828%20degrees%20C%29%20and%20subjected%20to%2060%20min%20of%20hypothermic%2C%20crystalloid%20CPA.%20With%20the%20onset%20of%20asystole%20both%20QL%20and%20PL%20decreased%20significantly%20from%2070.7%20%2B%5C%2F-%2031.8%20%28SD%29%20to%203.3%20%2B%5C%2F-%204.0%20microliters%5C%2Fmin%20and%20from%2019.9%20%2B%5C%2F-%208.0%20to%2010.4%20%2B%5C%2F-%201.8%20mmHg%2C%20respectively%20%28P%20%26lt%3B%200.01%29.%20Following%20return%20of%20sinus%20rhythm%20after%20separation%20from%20CPB%2C%20QL%20and%20PL%20increased%20significantly%20to%20135.4%20%2B%5C%2F-%2028.0%20microliters%5C%2Fmin%20and%2027.3%20%2B%5C%2F-%207.5%20mmHg%2C%20respectively%20%28P%20%26lt%3B%200.01%29.%20Post-CPA%20myocardial%20edema%20was%20demonstrated%20by%20gravimetric%20wet-to-dry%20weight%20determination%20of%203.67%20%2B%5C%2F-%200.20%20%28normal%202.90%20%2B%5C%2F-%200.20%2C%20P%20%26lt%3B%200.001%29%20and%20was%20associated%20with%20significantly%20decreased%20left%20ventricular%20function.%20Myocardial%20Hya%20turnover%20rate%20was%201.3%20%2B%5C%2F-%201.0%25%20per%20day%20under%20baseline%20conditions%20and%20increased%20significantly%20to%202.7%20%2B%5C%2F-%200.9%25%20per%20day%20post-CPA%20%28P%20%26lt%3B%200.01%29.%20We%20conclude%20that%20organized%20myocardial%20contraction%20is%20the%20major%20determinant%20of%20myocardial%20lymph%20flow.%20Myocardial%20lymph%20flow%20impairment%20during%20CPA%20may%20contribute%20to%20post-CPA%20myocardial%20edema%20and%20left%20ventricular%20dysfunction.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%22Jan%201995%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22eng%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1152%5C%2Fajpheart.1995.268.1.H178%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%220002-9513%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22TEGA66WD%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222018-05-22T20%3A21%3A58Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
